Washington Park Library - 2024

Project details

My intention with this design was to create a community-centered library that accommodates users of all ages and responds thoughtfully to their diverse needs. Informed by research, the library was designed as a space where children, teens, and adults can learn, create, and collaborate within an engaging and inspiring environment. The original façade was preserved to honor the building’s historic firehouse character. To strengthen the relationship between interior and exterior spaces, double glass doors were introduced along the Broom Street façade. On the O’Conner Street façade, I implemented a second-floor balcony for additional outdoor space and an exterior staircase to access the ground floor outdoor area. The interior prioritizes a sense of openness and fluid movement, while clearly organizing spaces according to age group and programmatic activity.
